The Music School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music is a key professional music school at state rank, subordinated directly to the Ministry of Education---(formerly to the Ministry of Culture). In former time, it was named as the Youth Class of the National Conservatory, founded in 1945 at Qing Mu Guan of Chong-Qing City, soon after, it moved to Chang Zhou of Jiang Su Province. In 1950, after the establishment of the Central Conservatory of Music, the Youth Class was incorporated in Central Conservatory of Music, in company with National Conservatory, and its name changed presently to the Juvenile Class of Central Conservatory of Music. The date of the formal establishment of this school was specified on the first of June of 1957, and from then on, the school finally gained its proper designation as The Music School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music. The history of this school has already prolonged to its 50 anniversary at present day. For tens year, under the proper guidance of the Party and Government, the loving care of different levels of leading body, and the painstaking efforts of pioneers of passed generations, the school has already developed in a considerable scale and acquired in favorable conditions for the promoting its educational enterprises. Now it's just in the course of facing its modernization and further all-round standard development. At present, the Music School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music involves two kinds of educational systems: the six-year middle school and three-year primary school. The specified orientation of studies includes: the performance of keyboard; orchestral and Chinese instruments; the vocal performance; and the basic training of composition and musicology. According to the necessities of teaching special fields of study, and specific contents of general cultural courses and music foundations courses, ten different Teaching and Research Sections have been organized. They belong to the fields of teaching of piano, violin, cello, wood-wind, national instruments, composition and music foundation courses, sight-singing and ear-training, piano obligatory courses, chamber music and general cultural courses. Now there are over 700 students studied in this school. Through the accumulation of qualified personals in several tens years the Music School Attached to Central Conservatory has maintained quite a large number of magnificent and able teaching personals whose teaching abilities have been openly acknowledged to classify on the first rank within this country by our musicians. Some of renowned professors, such as, Huang Yuan-li, Liao Fu-shu, Xia zhi-Qiu, Zhang Yan, Yi Kai-Ji, Zhu Gong-Yi, Zhou Guang-ren, Han Li, Lan Yu-Song, Yu Yi-xuan, Shen Xiang, Sui Ke-qiang, Wang Zhi-long, Lin Yao-ji, Pan Yi-ming and Chen Bi-gang etc. all had undertaken important teaching works in the Music School Attached to Central Conservatory. There is one thing especially deserved to be mentioned is that many renowned professors who have already passed sixty years of age, are still working at the front line of pedagogical activities. They are, for instance, Yang Ru-huai, Tao Chun-xiao, Wang Zhen-xian, Jin Ai-ping, Ling Yuan, Zhao Ping-guo, Wu Yuan, Zhong Hui, Wang Zhen-shan, Song Tao and Chen Yuan, Zhu Dun, Wang Yongxin etc. They have cherished a lot of men of ability for the school, working diligently and thoughtfully in direct teaching works or taking the post of educational inspectors. In recent years, the younger teachers of the school who have grown rapidly under the help of their predecessors have given more and more full play of their professional knowledge and influences on their pedagogical and compositional activities and artistic practice. At present, the number of younger teachers who has gained the title of higher professional post has been developed, raising up to the proportion of 60%. Some of them have won excellent achievements in both of important internal or external music competitions. They are all outstanding young composers and performers. Many teaching materials and teaching programs compiled by the professional teachers of the school have gained consistent high evaluation from internal specialists and many of them have been adopted in use by other brother schools.Besides, the teaching of cultural and general knowledge courses in the school is also passed on good tradition. The excellent works accomplished by some old professors, such as Yu Shu-qian, Tang De-zhang, Fang Cheng-guo, and Cai Zhong-de etc, have left deep unforgettable impressions to the students graduated in each year. The work of enrolling new students in the Music School Attached to Central Conservatory is directed toward the whole region of this country, and a vast number of students who possessed high level of music talent would be joined in the school through comprehensive and strict entrance examination. The majority of them would be introduced to enter the Conservatory for further and deeper training or studies.From the establishment of this school to the present, the Music School Attached to Central Conservatory has already accomplished its aim in cultivating more than 2000 qualified graduated students who are now working all over the country with all one's heart, knowledge and energy. Many of them have already become backbones of different literature and art organizations as art schools, and have gained good reputation both at home and abroad. Shi Guang-nan, Chu Wang-hua, Wang Li-ping, Liu Shi-kun, Yin Cheng-zong , Sheng Zhong-guo, Bao Hui-qiao, Wang Guo-tong , Huang An-lun and Chen Zuo-huang etc. are some of the outstanding representatives among them. There still more graduated students who work in ordinary post without attracting public attentions, even migrated to and lived in remote border provinces with conscientious and earnest spirit in performing their holy educational mission. They offered great contributions to the development of our national music culture. After the practicing of Reformation and Open-door policy, even more students of talent come forth in large number from the school with flourishing splendor, and a large group of talented early youth has come-forth. They are, for example, Jiang Jian-hua, Guo Chang, Lu Si-qing, Huang Bin, Lang Lang etc. According to preliminary assessment, since the founding, the person-time number of the school students who gained the praises from different national competitions has come up to 280, and the person-time number of praises winner within first three degree from the internal competition above the provincial rank has exceeded to 484. The Music School Attached to Central Conservatory is also an important gate-way in cultural sphere of our country for mutual exchange with out-world since the establishment of the School, the artistic practice and the cultural exchange with out-world have been considered ought to impart great emphasis. The world famous artists in music performance, such as, J. Menuhin , I q Stern, etc. had been to our school for giving lectures and passing their technical skill. Every year, the school also dispatches some excellent teachers and students to visit different foreign countries with participating different music performances in the aim of enhancing the mutual cultural exchange. Early in 1959,the only one youngest orchestra, at that time named "Red Scarf Orchestra"was founded in the Music School. At 60s, the orchestra received the intimate loving care and praises from the proletarian revolutionaries of old generation, they are Zhou En-lai "Deng Xiao-ping"etc. For many years, under the encouragement and support of the personalities of various circles of society and the strict discipline and careful cultivation offered by the teachers, the level of orchestral performance has greatly enhanced day by day. From 80s, the orchestra has gained advice and guidance from some great conductors of the world, such as Seiji Ozowa. In 1985 along with the change of the name "The Red Scarf Orchestra" to "The China Juvenile Orchestra" the scope of its organization and the level of its performing standard were further improved and strengthened. The orchestra has visited some countries in South-east Asia, Europe and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan districts at different time within three years. For the sake of advocating the national culture, proclaiming the fruits of Reformation, strengthening the friendly mutual contact and promoting the great undertaking of unification of the Country, the orchestra has done a great deal of work and made valuable contributions to our people. From 90s, the Music School also at different time organized the "Youth National Instruments Orchestra" "Children Chorus" and "Youth Chamber Orchestra"."Youth Brass Ochestra" Through participating the performance in these ensembles, the professional competence of the students have been greatly strengthened and the abilities of artistic practice acquired great improvement. At the same time, all these activities add new contents to the revealing of the splendid fruits of art education in our country. In accompany with the emergence of the twilight of our new century, the Music School Attached to Central Conservatory has entered into its golden age of rapid development. Under the loving care of the leading carders of Central Committee of the Party and State Council, a modern new school campus which represents international standard of 21th century, has already been built up in new district in Beijing in 2001 and has already put in use. Today the Music School has formed as an educational center which integrated performing, composing and researching activities into one unite, and has become a middle music professional school that has Chinese characteristic and international influence and been called with much praises as "The Cradle of Musicians". All the teaching staff of this school are just now climbing toward new higher goal, deferring strictly the spirit of "Excellence" "High Virtue" "Deligency and Aspiration", and striving earnestly with the aim of establishing the Music School as the first grade professional music school in the world. |
